Wave Top Hard Part With Dropped Back
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- Coarse coily, wave-trained
What it is
Brushed waves cut short and tight across the top, with a razored hard part carved straight back from the temple. The sides fade close beneath the part, while the back is left long and full, rolling down past the ear and thickening at the nape. It reads short and business-like from the front and heavy from the side, which is the whole trick.
Who it suits
Needs coarse coily hair that will lie down and hold a wave pattern under a brush. Good for someone who wants line work and a clean front but is not ready to lose the length at the back. The hard part gives a strong vertical line that suits a rounder head shape.
How to ask for it
Ask for the top brushed and cut to a 1.5 with the grain, sides tapered from a 1 down at the temple. Have a hard part razored in above the temple running straight toward the crown. Leave the back long and untouched below the occipital, blended softly into the side.
Upkeep
Brush the top daily and wear a durag at night to hold the pattern. The hard part grows out fast, so plan on a two-week line-up; the back can be left alone for months.
