What it is

Length is kept long through the front and swept up and back into a full standing pompadour, the top textured so the curl pattern shows rather than lying slick. Sides run into a taper that stays close at the temple and blends up into the mass. A hard part is carved from the temple back through the fade, and the front corner is edged square where the quiff lifts off the forehead.

Who it suits

For coily or thick wavy hair with enough grit to stand on its own once lifted. A good pick if you want height and want the eye pulled upward. The carved part and square corner give a sharp frame, so it works even on a softer hairline. Not for fine hair, which will not hold the lift.

How to ask for it

Ask for four inches left at the front graduating shorter toward the crown, brushed up and back. Take the sides to a taper starting at a 1 at the temple, blended up with no bald spot. Have a hard part razored above the temple and a square front corner edged in.

Upkeep

Blow-dry the front upward and set with a matte paste, not a wet-look pomade. Line-up and part refresh every two weeks; the top can hold six to eight weeks before it needs shortening.
