What it is

The top is left choppy and separated, cut into jagged points so the hair breaks into visible pieces rather than sitting as one mass, and the front is worn down as a short blunt fringe on the forehead. Sides drop into a mid fade that clears to skin above the ear and stays tight through the back. The contrast between the spiky top and the bare side panel is the whole idea.

Who it suits

Best on straight or slightly coarse hair that will hold a point-cut edge and stand up on its own. If your hair is very fine the pieces collapse, and if it's very curly the spiky separation reads differently. A good pick if you want the shortest possible commitment on the sides with texture retained through the top.

How to ask for it

Ask for a mid skin fade, bald at the bottom, with the fade line landing about level with the top of the ear. Top left around an inch and a half, point-cut and deep-texturised so it separates, with a blunt fringe sitting on the forehead. Neckline taken to skin and tapered.

Upkeep

Two weeks maximum, or the skin fade grows in grey. Dry with a towel, rub matte clay between your palms, and push the pieces forward and up. No comb.
