Interlocked Loc Crown With Shadow Taper
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- Coily hair, established locs
What it is
Thick, well-set locs standing tall off the crown and spreading like a fan, each one tight at the root from interlocking. The sides are taken down to a shadow taper that keeps a fine layer of hair on the skin instead of going fully bald, then blended up into the base of the locs. A crisp front corner is edged at the hairline to frame the whole thing.
Who it suits
For coily hair with locs past the budding stage that stand rather than hang. Interlocking suits anyone whose roots slip with twisting, or who works out and washes often. The shadow taper is a middle ground if a bald fade feels too severe but a full side of hair feels too heavy.
How to ask for it
Ask your loctician to interlock the new growth rather than twist it. At the barber, ask for a shadow taper: a 0.5 open lever at the bottom, no skin, blended through a 1 up to the loc line above the ear. Add a squared front edge-up and leave loc length alone.
Upkeep
Interlock every six to eight weeks; going in too often thins the root. Wash every two weeks and let the locs dry completely. Book the taper on its own two-to-three week rhythm.
