Barrel Twist Locs With Mid Bald Fade
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- Coily hair, mid-stage locs
What it is
Neat, uniform locs barrel-twisted so each one lies in a defined rope, falling forward over the forehead and back around the crown. Underneath, a mid bald fade wraps the side and back, cleared to skin at the ear and blended up until it disappears into the loc bed. The parting grid is tight and even, and the front locs are left long enough to break at the brow.
Who it suits
Best on coily hair with locs at the mid stage, uniform in thickness and long enough to swing. A good match if you keep a shaped beard, since the fade and beard line can be connected. The forward-falling front works for those who want the hairline softened rather than exposed.
How to ask for it
Ask for a mid bald fade: skin at the bottom, blending through 0.5, 1 and 1.5, with the fade line sitting level with the top of the ear. Have it connected into the beard at the sideburn. Locs get a barrel twist at the root only, nothing cut off the length.
Upkeep
Barrel-twist or retwist every four to six weeks, palm-rolling the roots to keep the grid clean. Wash with a clarifying shampoo monthly. The bald fade needs redoing every ten to fourteen days.
