Cornrow-Fed Locs With Tapered Sides
- Difficulty
- MASTER
- Hair Type
- Mature locs, long
What it is
Mature locs gathered back off the face in feeder cornrows across the top, then pulled and tied at the nape so the loc lengths hang free behind. The sides and around the ear are tapered close with a trimmer, so the braided section reads as a raised panel down the middle and back. A trimmer line squares off the front hairline and the beard is left full and connected through the sideburn.
Who it suits
For locs that have passed the budding stage and are firm enough to braid back without unraveling. Tapered sides suit anyone whose locs get bulky at the temples and who wants a cleaner silhouette for work. Also a practical style if you need the length off your neck for long days.
How to ask for it
Ask for your locs braided back in feeder cornrows to the crown and tied at the nape, with the sides and behind the ear tapered to a 1 blending up to a 2. Tell your loctician not to take the taper into the loc line itself. Finish with a squared trimmer line at the front and a full beard shape-up.
Upkeep
Retwist the new growth every four to six weeks and rebraid the feeders as they loosen. Oil the scalp between retwists, and get the tapered sides trimmed on the same visit.
