Freeform Loc Fro With Bald Temple Fade
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- Coily hair, budding locs
What it is
Fuller locs than the starter stage, still fuzzy along their length and radiating out from the crown in every direction. The sides are burned down to skin around the temple and ear, then blended sharply up into the loc bed with almost no transition zone. A hard front corner is carved into the hairline. The locs themselves are left unbound so they fan out rather than hanging.
Who it suits
For coily hair with locs in the budding or teenage phase, where the loc has knotted but not yet compacted. Anyone who wants maximum loc volume up top and zero bulk at the sides will get it here. The bald temple keeps the shape from widening the face, and it reads sharp without touching loc length.
How to ask for it
Ask for a bald temple fade taken to skin at the ear and cheek line, blended up through a 0.5 and 1 into the loc bed. Set the fade line so it clears the top of the ear. Have a hard front corner edged in, and tell the barber not to cut or thin any loc.
Upkeep
Palm-roll or retwist on a six-week cycle and let the roots settle between. Wash monthly with clarifying shampoo and dry fully. Fade line-ups run every two weeks independent of the retwist schedule.
