Feeder Cornrows Into A Braided Top Knot
- Difficulty
- MASTER
- Hair Type
- Coily hair with length on top
What it is
Straight-back feeder cornrows braided from the front hairline to the crown, where they gather into a thick knot tied high on the back of the head. Loose braids escape from the knot and hang down past the neck, one finished with a gold cuff. Underneath, the sides are faded close with the temple taken down to a shadow, which throws the braid pattern into relief. The front line is cut square and connects to a shaped beard.
Who it suits
Requires enough length on top to braid and gather. The faded sides make it much easier to keep tidy than an all-over braid style, so it suits someone who wants braids but is in the barber chair regularly anyway. The height at the crown lengthens a shorter or wider face.
How to ask for it
Ask for feeder cornrows straight back from the hairline to the crown, gathered into a top knot with a few braids left loose. Have the barber fade the sides from a 0.5 at the temple up to a 2, stopping cleanly at the braid line. Add a squared line-up at the front and a connected beard.
Upkeep
Rebraid every two to three weeks, wrap at night to protect the parts, and oil the scalp along the rows. Get the faded sides recut weekly or fortnightly, since they blur faster than the braids loosen.
