Straight-Back Cornrows With Tapered Sides And Beard
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- coily, four inches or more
What it is
Six to eight feeder braids run straight back from the hairline to the nape, each one fed thicker as it travels so the pattern widens toward the back and the ends hang loose past the neckline. The sides beneath the braid panel are taken down short and tapered, so the braids sit on a clean shaved base. A full beard is shaped and connected to the sideburn, with the cheek line carved straight.
Who it suits
Needs enough length to grip a braid, roughly four inches, on coily or kinky hair. Suits anyone who wants a protective style that still gets barber-level edges. The tapered sides keep bulk down, so it works well if your hair grows thick around the ears.
How to ask for it
Ask for straight-back feeder cornrows, medium size, parted with a comb and braided flat to the nape with the ends left hanging. Sides beneath the braids taken to a 1 and tapered to skin at the base. Then a shape-up on the front hairline and the beard lined at the cheek and neck.
Upkeep
Two to three weeks on the braids before they need redoing, but book a taper and beard line-up at the halfway point. Oil the scalp along the parts and tie down at night.
