Fade
Temple Fade With Rounded Coil Top And Tapered Nape
- Difficulty
- INTERMEDIATE
- Hair Type
- 4B coily, high density
What it is
Temple-focused work with a soft finish. The fade lifts at the corner and sweeps back around the ear into a gradual taper at the nape, never going bald, so the sides read as a shadow rather than a hard line. The top is a full round of dense coils that keeps its width at the back of the head. The line-up is precise but shallow, with a small step at the temple instead of a deep block. No beard, so the jaw stays open and the shape sits high.
Who it suits
Best on 4A to 4C coils with enough length and body to keep a round outline. The retained width flatters long and narrow faces by adding balance. A clean-shaven jaw means the hairline and temple do all the framing, so the front edge needs to be strong. Anyone wanting sharp bald contrast should look at a skin fade instead.
How to ask for it
Ask for a temp fade at the corners with a taper carried around the ear and down the nape, no skin anywhere. Say leave the top full and round, keep the width at the back. Request a shallow line-up with a small step at the temple and a natural tapered neckline.
Upkeep
Three weeks. The taper at the nape blurs first, the top just softens. Pick out at the roots, use a leave-in every other day, and sleep with a durag to protect the round shape.
