What it is

Waves brushed off a defined side part, so the ridges run diagonally back and down rather than radiating from the crown. The part is carved in with a trimmer and the pattern flows away from it on both sides. Length is kept longer than a standard wave cut, which lets the ripples stretch out and read wide across the side of the head. A low fade starts just above the ear and clears the nape.

Who it suits

For hair with a strong natural wave pattern already trained in. The side part gives direction to hair that wants to swirl in two places at once, so it helps if your crown fights you. A low fade instead of a bald edge keeps the look softer and more office-friendly than a hard skin line.

How to ask for it

Ask for waves left long, around a 2 on top, brushed on a side part. Have the barber carve a thin hard part where your natural part falls. Take the fade low, starting a finger-width above the ear and blending 1 to 1.5 down into the taper, with a squared line at the front.

Upkeep

Brush in the direction of the part twice a day and wrap at night. Come back every two weeks to have the hard part recut and the low fade refreshed before the pattern loses its edge.
