What it is

Waves are the point of this one. The top is cut very short and brushed into a deep, evenly spaced wave pattern that spins from the crown and runs unbroken to the front hairline. Underneath, the fade stays low, starting just above the ear and softening down through the sideburn so nothing competes with the wave rows. The front line-up is set as a hard rectangle at the temple. A full salt-and-pepper beard closes the frame at the jaw.

Who it suits

Requires coarse 4A to 4C hair with a natural spin pattern and enough density to hold rows. Suits round and full faces because short sides pull the head narrow. Straight or loosely curled hair will not wave. Anyone unwilling to brush daily should choose a plain low fade instead, because half-formed waves read as messy.

How to ask for it

Say low fade, start it just over the ear and keep the sides soft, no bald. Ask for the top cut short with the grain, about a 1 with no guard on the lever, so the waves keep their depth. Request a hard line-up with a square temple corner and the beard shaped in at the cheek.

Upkeep

Two weeks between cuts. Waves flatten within days without work: brush morning and night, use a light moisturizer, and wear a durag whenever you are home.
