Rounded Afro Taper With Squared Front
- Difficulty
- INTERMEDIATE
- Hair Type
- Dense coily hair
What it is
Dense coily hair left full and picked round from the crown back, dropping past the ear and covering the nape so the silhouette stays heavy at the back. Only the temple and front corner are worked, tapered close and edged into a hard square at the hairline. The top carries a light wave pattern where it has been brushed. Almost all the length lives behind the ear.
Who it suits
For thick coily hair with the density to hold a round shape without collapsing. If you want an afro but need the front to read clean, this gives you a sharp face-framing edge and full volume everywhere else. It flatters a wider face because the back weight balances the width at the cheek.
How to ask for it
Ask for the afro left uncut through the back and crown, shaped round with a pick. Take a taper at the temple only, a 1 blending up into the length, and set the line just in front of the ear. Finish with a hard squared front corner and leave the nape natural.
Upkeep
Pick out from the roots while damp and moisturize every couple of days so the shape stays even. Only the front edge needs the barber, roughly every two weeks; the length can go two months.
