What it is

The top is left as a short dense afro cap, picked to an even round with real height at the crown, sitting over a mid fade that starts around the temple and blends to a soft dark base rather than skin. The blend is deliberately gradual, so the sides read like a shadow under the cap. A precise line-up squares off the forehead. The full beard, grey at the chin, is edged at the cheek and carries the lower half of the shape.

Who it suits

Requires dense 4B or 4C growth able to stand and hold height. The volume up top and beard mass below balance a long or narrow face and give width where it helps. Thin coverage at the temples will flatten the cap. If you want an ultra-clean bald contrast, this softer blend is not it.

How to ask for it

Ask for a mid fade with no skin, blended to a soft dark base, starting at the temple. Say leave the top full, picked out evenly, and shaped round with the shears. Request a sharp line-up across the front and the beard connected and edged at the cheek and neck.

Upkeep

Three weeks. The fade line softens first, the afro just gets taller. Pick out daily from the roots, use a leave-in to stop dryness, and keep the beard line trimmed weekly.
