Fade
Mid Taper Fade With Slick Comb-Back
- Difficulty
- BEGINNER
- Hair Type
- straight fine to medium density
What it is
Conservative and clean. The fade runs mid-height, starting a little below the temple and blending through to a very short base without going bald, and the neck is tapered rather than blocked. Up top the hair is left moderate length and combed straight back flat to the head, with comb marks visible in the finish. A short razored edge defines the front corner. No beard, so the whole shape rests on the fade line and the slick top.
Who it suits
Fits straight or slightly wavy hair of fine to medium density that lies down without fighting. Flatters square and oval faces and reads well in formal settings. Very curly or coily hair will not comb back this flat without heat. Anyone with a cowlick at the front hairline should expect to fight it every morning.
How to ask for it
Ask for a mid taper fade, no skin, blended short and left tapered at the neck. Say keep about two inches on top, cut to comb straight back with no part. Request a light edge at the front corner only and the neckline tapered rather than squared.
Upkeep
Three to four weeks. The neck taper is the first thing to look shaggy. A pea of pomade or a light cream through damp hair, combed back, holds all day.
