Fade
Loose Curl Temp Taper
- Difficulty
- BEGINNER
- Hair Type
- Loose wavy to curly hair, medium density
What it is
Loose S-curl on top, cut short enough to sit close but long enough for the curl pattern to show as texture rather than frizz. The sides run a soft taper that darkens through the ear and blends into a low neckline without going bald anywhere. A tight temple line drops down into a shaped beard on the cheek. Nothing here is dramatic — it is a clean, conservative shape that leans on good blending and a sharp front edge.
Who it suits
Good for wavy or loosely curled hair that gets bulky if grown out. Rounder faces benefit from the close sides and the height left on top. It is the safe order for a man who wants to look put together at work and doesn't want to explain a fade to anyone.
How to ask for it
Ask for a low taper fade, no skin, starting a 1 at the bottom and blending up to a 3 above the ear. Set the fade line just below the temple corner. Leave the top around an inch with the curl scissor-cut, and square the front hairline. Taper the nape naturally instead of blocking it.
Upkeep
A light curl cream on damp hair keeps the pattern together all day. Every three weeks holds the shape; the taper grows out soft rather than heavy, so it is forgiving between visits.
