Fade
Mid Fade With Rounded Coil Cap
- Difficulty
- INTERMEDIATE
- Hair Type
- Dense tight coils
What it is
A rounded cap of tight coils left an inch or so through the top and crown, shaped to follow the skull, sitting over a fade that comes up to roughly mid-height on the side. The blend is close at the ear and lightens gradually into the coil line without a visible band. The front hairline is cut with a deep squared corner at the temple, and the beard is left full and grey-flecked, faded up into the sideburn.
Who it suits
Suits dense coils that hold shape on their own without picking out. The mid fade is the middle ground between a conservative taper and a high skin fade, so it works in most workplaces. A full beard underneath balances the volume up top and gives a fuller face a clear jawline.
How to ask for it
Ask for a mid fade starting at a 1 at the bottom and blending to a 3, breaking level with the top of the ear. Leave the top an inch, shaped rounded, no flat top. Request a deep squared line-up at the temple and a full beard faded from the sideburn down, trimmed but not shortened.
Upkeep
Moisturize the top and beard daily, brush the coils to keep them lying even. Every three weeks for the fade and line-up, with a beard shape at the same visit.
