Mid Drop Fade With Rounded Curl Cap
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- 3C to 4A curly, high density
What it is
A mid fade with a drop behind the ear, so the guideline curves down and follows the skull rather than staying flat. The top is left as a tight, rounded cap of springy curl, shorter and closer than a full curly top, cut evenly all round so it holds a dome. The line-up at the temple is straight and sharp against the curl. Below the drop line the sides blend to a light skin at the nape.
Who it suits
Fits 3C to 4A curls of high density that hold a rounded shape without picking. The dome adds height for round and square faces while the dropped back keeps the head from looking flat. Sparse crown coverage breaks the dome. Not the cut for anyone with loose, weighty curls that fall instead of standing.
How to ask for it
Say mid fade with a drop behind the ear, following the skull down toward the nape, light skin at the base. Ask them to round the top off with scissors, keeping the curl even and about an inch and a half, no flat spots. Add a straight sharp line-up at the front.
Upkeep
Three weeks. The rounded shape goes lopsided before the fade does. Refresh with water and curl cream daily, and pat rather than rub dry to keep definition.
