Fade
Low Burst Fade With Rounded Afro Top
- Difficulty
- INTERMEDIATE
- Hair Type
- Dense tightly coiled hair, three inches plus
What it is
A rounded afro of dense natural coils, kept full over the crown and left to sit high, with the sides burst-faded in a low arc that wraps around the ear. The fade stays close to the ear and rises back up quickly, so almost all the volume is retained. The front hairline is cut with a deep stepped corner at the temple, and the beard is connected through the sideburn with a hard razor line along the upper cheek.
Who it suits
For dense, tightly coiled hair with three or more inches on top that holds a round shape without collapsing. The low burst preserves volume, which balances a broad or full face. Choose this if you want the presence of an afro but still want the ear area clean. Requires enough density that the top reads solid rather than sparse.
How to ask for it
Ask for a low burst fade with a rounded afro left on top. Have the burst arc tightly around the ear, skin at the base blending to a 1.5 within an inch, and keep it low so the top volume is untouched. Request a stepped line-up at the temple and a connected beard with a sharp cheek line.
Upkeep
Pick out from the roots while damp, then shape with a hair pick and a light oil. Keep a satin bonnet on overnight to hold the round. Fade cleanup every two weeks.
