What it is

Tight, springy curls are left as a full round cap on top, then the sides come down into a low fade that stays a shadow rather than going to skin, blending softly from just below the temple down to the nape. The perimeter across the forehead is left natural with no shape-up line, so the curl runs into the fade without a hard break. A quiet, well-balanced shape.

Who it suits

Suits tight curl or coily hair with real volume. Good if you want the sides brought in without the harshness of a bald fade, or if your hairline is uneven and a hard shape-up would fight it. The low fade preserves fullness through the sides, so the head still reads round.

How to ask for it

Ask for a low fade taken to a 0.5 at the base, never bald, with the fade line starting below the temple and blending into the curl by the top of the ear. Top left untouched apart from evening the shape. Ask for a natural front hairline, no line-up, and a tapered neckline.

Upkeep

Three to four weeks; the shadow fade grows out kindly. Wash, condition, apply leave-in on soaking-wet hair, and diffuse or air-dry. Pick at the roots for height.
