Fade
High Skin Fade with Full Afro Top
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- 4A to 4B coily, very high density
What it is
The fade climbs high above the temple, hitting skin at the bottom and blending fast into a wide, unshaped afro that sits well above the fade line and extends past the sides of the head. The gap between the tight fade and the full afro is deliberately abrupt, which gives the cut its mushroom silhouette. A stepped line-up cuts across the forehead. Nothing is taken off the top; the afro is picked out and left round.
Who it suits
Needs dense 4A to 4B coils with enough length to pick out to at least three inches. Best on oval and rectangular faces, since the width up top balances a narrow head. A wide or round face may find the volume overwhelming. Fine or loosely curled hair will not stand up and should not attempt this shape.
How to ask for it
Ask for a high skin fade with the fade line sitting above the temple, going bald at the bottom and blending quickly into the top. Say to leave the afro completely untouched on top, pick it out round, and cut a stepped line-up across the front hairline.
Upkeep
Two weeks or the fade line drops and kills the contrast. Pick the afro out daily, moisturise nightly, and sleep on satin to keep the round shape.
