High Temp Fade Curl Sponge Top
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- Dense coily hair suited to sponge twisting
What it is
Twisted, sponged coils sit high on top with real separation between them, and the temple fade below is taken up past the recede point so the sides are cut well clear of the top's mass. The blend runs down to skin at the sideburn and connects into a thin beard line along the jaw. Because the fade sits high, the curls on top look taller than they are and the head reads longer through the crown.
Who it suits
Coily hair that responds to a curl sponge — dense enough to twist but not so long it clumps. Best on rounder or wider face shapes, since the height and the high fade both stretch the silhouette upward. Suits anyone comfortable spending two minutes on their hair each morning.
How to ask for it
Ask for a high temp fade, skin at the sideburn opening to a 1 and 2, with the fade line taken above the temple corner. Keep the top full, uncut on the sides of the crown, and shape it with shears only. Square the front line-up and keep the beard connection thin.
Upkeep
Sponge the curls on damp hair with a leave-in, then oil the scalp. Trim the fade every two weeks; the sponged top can go a month before it needs shaping.
