Taper
Drop Taper With Afro Crown
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- Dense tight coils
What it is
Dense coils left full and rounded through the crown, sitting above a taper that drops as it travels back from the temple, curving down under the ear. The top keeps its afro volume with the perimeter shaped rather than cut flat. The blend runs from a shadow at the ear up into the coil line so there is no hard edge between the two. A crisp trimmer line frames the front, and the beard is connected through the sideburn.
Who it suits
Made for dense, tightly coiled hair that grows up and out. Keeping height at the crown while dropping the side line balances a wide face and adds length to the profile. Suits someone who wants recognizable afro volume but still needs clean, professional-looking sides.
How to ask for it
Ask for a drop taper: 0.5 at the ear blending to a 2, with the line dropping behind the ear instead of running level. Leave the crown full, shaped with shears only, no clipper over comb on top. Finish with a sharp squared line-up and connect the sideburn into the beard.
Upkeep
Pick the crown out daily and use a light oil to keep the coils from drying. Return every two to three weeks for the drop taper and line-up; the top can be shaped every second visit.
