What it is

Loose defined curls left with real length through the top and crown, dropping into a taper that curves down behind the ear instead of running level. The weight sits high, so the curls stack and keep their spring while the sides stay tight. The line-up is cut sharp with a squared temple, and the taper melts from skin at the ear up into the curl line with no visible step.

Who it suits

Best for hair that curls naturally in defined coils rather than tight kinks, since the top is meant to hold shape without product doing all the work. The dropped line follows the curve of the skull, which softens a fuller jaw and neck. Good if you want length on top but no bulk at the sides.

How to ask for it

Ask for a mid drop taper: start the guard at a 0.5 at the bottom, blend to a 2, and drop the line behind the ear so it follows the curve rather than staying straight. Leave the top scissor-cut, two to three inches, keeping the curl clumps intact. Sharp squared line-up at the front.

Upkeep

Wash and condition twice a week, use a light curl cream on damp hair and pick out at the roots. Back to the chair every three weeks to redrop the taper before the sides swell out.
