Beard
Skin Fade Around Bald Crown with Tapered Beard
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- wavy coarse beard, patterned hair loss
What it is
The crown is bare, so the barber has faded what grows on the sides and back upward into that bare skin, leaving a soft ring of stubble around the head with no visible line where hair stops. In front of the ear the beard fades in from short, then thickens down into a full jaw and a long chin with grey through it. The transition from scalp fade to beard runs continuously past the sideburn, which is what makes the shape sit right.
Who it suits
Suits mid-to-late-stage male pattern loss where the horseshoe ring is still dense. Best with straight or wavy beard hair that will grow past an inch. Round and heavy faces get the most from it, because the chin length pulls the profile down. Not for anyone with a full head of hair, and not for patchy sideburn growth.
How to ask for it
Ask to fade the horseshoe ring up into the bald crown so there is no hard line, running about a 1 at the bottom into nothing at the top. Then say to carry the fade forward into the sideburn and drop into a full beard, chin left long, neckline cleaned two fingers above the collarbone.
Upkeep
Two weeks before the blend goes flat. The stubble ring shows a hard edge first. Trim the moustache yourself and oil the chin twice a week.
