What it is

Rather than a bare razor shave, the scalp is left with the faintest shadow of stubble across the crown and back, which softens the top of the head and keeps a natural gradient down to the neck. The beard is kept short and tight all over, maybe a quarter inch, with the cheek line following the natural growth and no hard edges anywhere. Grey runs through the chin and moustache. It is the low-effort, low-contrast version of the shaved-head-and-beard look.

Who it suits

Good for mature growth where the beard is fine or wiry and would look thin if left long. Suits narrow and oval faces because nothing bulks the jaw. Works with any degree of hair loss. If you want a strong jaw framed by beard weight, this is too subtle and you should let the chin grow out instead.

How to ask for it

Ask for the head buzzed to zero with the clipper, no razor and no skin shave, so a shadow stays. Beard down to a 2 all over, cheek line left where it grows, neckline cleaned just under the jaw, and the moustache tidied off the lip.

Upkeep

Every two to three weeks. The neckline is what starts to look untidy. A single guard length at home keeps the beard even between visits.
