What it is

A dense, evenly rounded cap of curls sits across the top and comes down low over the forehead in a soft curled fringe. The sides are taken into a low taper fade that stays close but never bald, blending from around the ear down to a tight nape. There's no shape-up at the front; the curl is allowed to fall to its natural line, which keeps the whole cut soft-edged.

Who it suits

For medium to tight curl with enough weight to sit as a mass rather than stand up. A good option if you want a fuller, rounder silhouette than a fade usually gives, and don't want a hard hairline. It also suits anyone growing out a shorter cut, since the low taper is easy to carry forward.

How to ask for it

Ask for a low taper fade, 0.5 at the base blending to a 2, with the fade line kept just at the ear and no higher. Leave the top full and round, scissor-cut to even the shape, with the front left long enough to curl onto the forehead. Neckline tapered out, not blocked.

Upkeep

Three to four weeks. Condition well, apply curl cream to wet hair, and diffuse on low heat or let it dry naturally for the roundest shape.
