What it is

Uniform short length on top with the sides taken noticeably tighter, taper starting above the temple and running down to skin behind the ear. The result sits between a plain buzz and a fade: there is a visible gradient on the side but the top keeps its full buzzed length right to the edge. A hard square corner is cut into the front hairline. The nape is tapered clean rather than blocked.

Who it suits

Fine to medium straight hair suits this because the taper stays smooth without stray coarse hairs breaking through. Good for square and oval faces with a defined jaw. Cowlicks at the crown will show. If your hair is thick and coarse it will bristle out of the taper and want a proper fade instead.

How to ask for it

Ask for a 2 on top, all one length, then a taper on the sides starting just above the temple and going down to skin at the bottom. Say you want a square corner cut in at the front hairline and a natural tapered neckline, not a straight block.

Upkeep

Two weeks. The taper zone loses its gradient first and the corner rounds off. No product needed, just wash and go.
