Fade
Burst Fade Mullet with Wavy Fringe
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- wavy medium density
What it is
Wavy length is kept heavy on top and pushed forward into a broken fringe, while a burst fade wraps around the ear and drops to skin just below it. Behind the ear the fade releases and the hair grows straight out into a mullet tail that reaches past the collar. Sideburn area is faded clean so the ear stays exposed. The contrast between the tight burst and the shaggy tail is the whole point of the cut.
Who it suits
Wavy to loosely curly medium-density hair works best, since the tail needs movement without frizz. Suits oval and long faces; a very round face may find the fringe weight closes the forehead too much. Needs a strong growth pattern at the nape. Anyone with thin nape growth will get a straggly tail rather than a full one.
How to ask for it
Ask for a burst fade around the ear, skin under the ear, blending up into the top. Say to leave the top long and textured with a forward fringe, and to keep the back long past the collar as a mullet, point-cut so it moves rather than sitting blunt.
Upkeep
Three to four weeks; the burst needs it sooner than the tail. The area behind the ear grows in and blurs the shape. Use a sea-salt spray on damp hair and let it air dry.
