Braided Bun With High Skin Fade
- Difficulty
- ADVANCED
- Hair Type
- coily to wavy, five inches or longer
What it is
Cornrows are braided back across the top and gathered into a coiled bun that sits high at the crown, with the braid ends wrapped around themselves to hold the knot. Below the braid panel the sides are dropped to a high skin fade that runs bald above the ear and sweeps back into the nape. The braided section stops in a hard edge where the fade begins, so the top reads as a defined panel.
Who it suits
For hair long enough to braid and gather, at least five or six inches through the top, with coily or wavy texture. Suits anyone who wants length kept and tied up but the sides completely off. The high fade line means the bun stands clear, so it works if you want the shape read from a distance.
How to ask for it
Ask for straight-back cornrows on the top panel only, gathered and coiled into a bun at the crown. Sides and back taken to a high skin fade, bald at the bottom with the fade line finishing just below where the braids start. Shape-up the front hairline and line the beard.
Upkeep
Fade every ten to fourteen days; the braids can hold two to three weeks. Re-tie the bun daily, oil the parts, and cover with a scarf at night to stop frizz at the hairline.
